Australian Open: Diego Schwartzman vs. Filip Krajinovic 1/18/22 Tennis Prediction

Filip Krajinovic faces Diego Schwartzman in the first round of the 2022 Australian Open on Tuesday, January 18th 2022.

Will Filip Krajinovic show us a moment of magic with his all round game, or will Diego Schwartzman’s return be subliminal and tire the Serb out?

Filip Krajinovic will be very happy of his performances at the ATP Cup this year. Although Serbia did not make it out of the group stages, he did get some tough wins under his belt and showed some composure during tight moments. Krajinovic is an underrated player who has an all round game, with great movement, shot making abilities, and composure. However, what he lacks is the consistency at times throughout the match, which can lead to longer matches than he should be playing.

Diego Schwartzman also went 2-1 at the ATP Cup this year, but he did it in even better style, beating the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili, and Stefanos Tsitsipas (his first top 5 win on a hard court). Diego is an amazing player and if he is returning like he did at the ATP Cup, he is surely going to have a good time here at the AO. Diego does not have a huge serve, but he makes it up with the rest of his game, and he will come out here ready to prove everyone wrong time and time again.

This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and this is going to be an entertaining opening round encounter. Filip and Diego are both the same age. However, Diego has achieved way more in his shorter professional career. Filip does have a serving advantage coming into this match, but when Diego returns like he has done already this year, that serve gets neutralised and the match becomes about the rallying. I expect maybe for Filip to take 1 set here just because of his solid game and experience, but Diego will make sure the match does not go the full distance.
