The Winnipeg Jets and the Buffalo Sabres meet in NHL action from the KeyBank Arena on Wednesday night.
The Winnipeg Jets will look to build on a 2-1 OT win over Arizona last time out. Kyle Connor leads the Jets in scoring with 82 points including a team-high 41 goals and 41 assists while Pierre-Luc Dubois has 50 points with 25 goals and 25 assists. Mark Scheifele has 62 points with 26 goals and 36 assists and Brenden Dillon also has a team-best +16 plus/minus for the Jets this season. Blake Wheeler also has 42 assists while Connor Hellebuyck has made the majority of the starts in goal for Winnipeg, going 24-23-9 with a 2.94 GAA and a .911 save percentage this season.
The Buffalo Sabres will look to build on a 6-5 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in their last game. Tage Thompson leads the Sabres in scoring with 51 points including 28 goals while Rasmus Dahlin also has 43 points with a team-high 34 assists and Jeff Skinner has 47 points with 27 goals. Kyle Okposo also has 38 points with 17 goals and 21 apples this season. Craig Anderson has an 12-9-1 record with a 3.13 GAA and a .901 save percentage between the pipes for Buffalo this season.
Winnipeg is 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against the Atlantic division. Buffalo is 18-38 in their last 56 home games and 35-86 in their last 121 games as an underdog while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog.
It’s never really ideal to lay this kind of juice on the road, but the bottom line is that the Jets need this game a lot more than the Sabres do right now and as well as Buffalo’s playing, one has to wonder just how sustainable it really is. Winnipeg’s been a hard team to back on the road, but the Jets are coming off of a pair of hard fought wins and I think the Jets keep their playoff hopes going with a win on the road in this one.
