Norrie Takes Down Paul
With his win on Wednesday, 26-year old Norrie earned a spot in his first career ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinals. He defeated the American Tommy Paul 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
He’s now notched his 44th win of the season, and will look to extend that further in the tournament. He came out in the first set setting the pace, building a 5-1 lead, and was able to close the first set out quite easily. Paul did respond in the second, as he was able to read Norrie more, and eventually take the set, forcing a decider.

We then know how it ended, and ultimately Norrie was too much for Paul on Thursday, even though the American had the crowd behind him. Norrie will look towards arguably what will be his toughest opponent in the tournament so far, Schwartzman.
Schwartzman Upsets Ruud
29-year old Schwartzman stunned Casper Rudd on Wednesday, when he defeated the Norwegian 6-3, 6-3. With the win, Schwartzman earned a spot in his first Indian Wells quarterfinal.
This season Schwartzman struggled against Top 10 player, but defeating Rudd earned him his first Top 10 win of 2021.

It looked to be the Argentine’s match from the start. Schwartzman came out with a strong, persise forehand, that showed to be too much for Ruud. In the first set alon, Schwartzman won 12 of 15 first serve points, and managed 10 winners, while Ruud only recorded six.
He went on to land 73 percent of his first serves, converting 64 percent of them into points. While following it up with a 71 win percent on his second serve. Ruud hovered around te 50 percent mark, which made a big difference in this match.
Schwartzman is now the favorite heading into his quarterfinal match, but does he have enough to move onto the semi’s?
These two are relatively familiar with each other, having played one another three previous times, with Norrie holding the head-to-head edge 2-1. Their first meeting came back in 2017 where Schwartzman recorded his only win against Norrie. Most recently they competed in the 2020 US Open.
Two of their three matches, and both of Norrie’s wins have come on outdoor hard courts, the same surface they will be playing on in Indian Wells.
Cameron Norrie vs Diego Schwartzman Head-to-Head Stats
These two match up fairly well against each other. Having three previous matches against one another under their belt makes it even more interesting. They’re familiar with each other. Usually head-to-heads don’t need to carry too much weight, especially when they haven’t played against each other in over a year, but the fact that both of Norrie’s wins came on outdoor hard courts says something.
Yes, Schwartzman is coming into the match as the favorite, and the higher seeding and his huge upset win are big reasons for that. But Norrie had to defeat 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut to get here, and he’s playing some great tennis as well. Neither player is going to go down easily.
Really the best bet doesn’t look to be who’s going to win outright, it’s that no matter the winner, this match looks to be one that will most likely go the distance.
Best Bet: Ov 2.5 sets (+145)
