If you were wondering why Nick Schmaltz was not in your lineup as you began the final week for a fantasy championship on Monday — heads up. Schmaltz was struck in the head by an errant puck during pre-game warmups and was a late scratch against the Kings last night. The 25-year-old was down on the ice for some time before being helped off the sheet and back to the dressing room.
Schmaltz was having a solid season for the desert dogs putting up ten goals and 32 points in 52 games while logging an impressive 17 minutes per game.
The Coyotes, who are fighting for their playoff lives, went on to drop the 3-2 decision to LA and are now five points behind Nashville for the West’s final playoff spot. Arizona has just two games left while the Predators still have five to play. Over at the FanDuel Sportsbook, the Yotes have a slim chance to reach the postseason with +2400 odds.
They will conclude the season with a two-game set against the Sharks on Wednesday and at this point Schmaltz should be considered day-to-day but shouldn’t be relied on with Arizona all but out of it.
