CPL 2021 resumes on September 14th with the second Semi-Final being played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts at 2:30pm EST between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the hometown team, the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors have been led admirably by Nicholas Pooran who has been tactically sound and very adaptive to every situation he has encountered throughout the tournament. Not only was he the leader of the team but he was also influential with the bat amassing 237 runs thus far while Chanderpaul Hemraj compiled 227 runs in his tourney. Romario Shepherd has been the standout player for the Warriors with both bat and ball stitching together 108 runs in his 7 innings but taking 18 scalps. If the team from Guyana is to be successful, he will need to be impactful on the scorecard. Imran Tahir was also a key cog in the Guyanese based side with 13 wickets while Odean Smith continues to impress year after year, this time taking 16 wickets so far. This side has all the right makings a championship caliber team, they have passion, composure and talent, they will be hoping to continue in that same vein tomorrow.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots have been sensational basically from start to finish, winning their first 5 matches before losing their next three. They are many reasons why they are the favorites to win at all and here are a few of those reasons: Evin Lewis has been explosive this entire season accompanied by Devon Thomas at the top of the order and Sherfane Rutherford, who on a few occasions has single-handedly won games for the Patriots. From a bowling perspective, Barbadian born Dominic Drakes has developed into a fantastic bowler at the top of the innings and a brilliant mind in the depth overs. Captain Dwayne Bravo and Fabian Allen admirably assisted the speedster, thus making this team one huge threat to not only Guyana Amazon Warriors, but also the two other semi-final teams vying for the trophy.
Will this be the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots year or will they let the Warriors defeat them? You could not ask for a better way to end the semi-final stage of the tournament, two teams destined for glory but only one can stand tall in the final, who will it be? The Guyana Amazon Warriors are oozing in confidence at the moment after impressive wins all season but St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on the other hand will have the crown on their side as the home team and that 12th man support is what will take them over the line in tomorrow’s clash of the titans, sending the Warriors home and reaching the final. I expect this to be a very close match with both teams having very explosive batting line-ups, but ultimately the experience of the Patriots and their crowd support should see them home in a thrilling match, and they will advance to the Final of the 2021 Caribbean Premier League.
