Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat News and Notes

The Mavericks and Heat hook up in Miami, with both teams fighting to stay out of the play-in round in their conferences.

Miami picked up their third straight win defeating the Charlotte Hornets 121-111 on Sunday. Miami slides into the sixth slot in the East with the victory, a game up on Boston, a half-game back of Atlanta, and two back of New York for a first-round home series.

Bam Adebayo led the way against Charlotte with 20 points, ten assists, and seven rebounds. Frontcourt mate Jimmy Butler also flirted with a triple-double with 18 points, eight boards, and eight helpers, while Goran Dragic added 18 off the bench.

The Heat look to conclude the season series with Dallas at 1-1 with a home win on Tuesday. Miami will have to do it without Tyler Herro and Victor Oladipo. Herro will miss his sixth straight with a foot issue, while Oladipo has played just four games for Miami since being acquired from the Rockets at the trade deadline. He’s missed 13 in a row with a knee injury.

Dallas has their own impact player dealing with a knee problem. Team second-leading scorer Kristaps Porzingis missed his fifth game of six when the Mavs lost to Sacramento on Sunday. Porzingis, who also leads the team in rebounds and blocks, wasn’t there to help Dallas avoid their third straight loss to the lowly Kings.

The Mavericks dropped to 0-3 on the season to 27-37 Sacramento thanks to a 111-99 homecourt loss. Luka Doncic led the way with a game-high 30 points, but he and the whole team struggled from behind the arc. Dallas hit just 17 percent of their three-pointers, another area they miss Porzingis, and his 2.2 triples a night. He’s listed as doubtful for Tuesday night.

Dallas has won six of nine overall, but those three losses came at the hands of the Kings. Despite the setbacks, the Mavs hold a half-game lead over Portland for the six seed while a half-game back of the Lakers for fifth.

Miami is 6-2-1 against the spread in their past nine, while the Mavericks have covered in seven of ten against teams with a winning record. The under was the play in eight of nine when Dallas was a road dog while the Heat went over in six straight. Miami is 5-1-1 ATS in their past five against the Mavs while the under hit in nine of 13 head-to-head meetings.
