DeMarcus Cousins is Officially on the Market

The Houston Rockets and DeMarcus Cousins have mutually agreed to part ways. He will now be a free agent and can essentially pick the team of his choosing. Cousins looked like he was recently getting into a groove. In his last 14 games, he averaged around 12 points per game and shot 45% from the field.

It’s more than likely that Cousins will join forces with a playoff contender as there are quite a few teams that could benefit from his services—the Bucks, Celtics, Knicks, and Raptors with a real playoff contender. In the Western Conference, the Lakers, Trail Blazers, Warriors, and Mavericks could also use some help in the frontcourt. Cousins knows the conference very well from his time with the Kings, and he’s already been a member of both the Lakers and the Warriors.

The Warriors are holding on to the eighth playoff spot, so it’s unlikely that Cousins is the type of player who will push them over the top. If he were to join up with the Lakers, though, he would be able to fill out their bench and give them some valuable minutes with Anthony Davis sidelined. The Lakers have lost their last three games, and they’re just 1-4 since Anthony Davis went down with a calf injury.

Los Angeles can still benefit from a player like Cousins, and it would behoove them to explore that opportunity while still available.
