Schroder entered the league’s health and safety protocols on Sunday, and The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports he is expected to miss the next 10-14 days. It’s yet another blow for the Lakers, who recently played a stretch of games without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Both players are back in the lineup currently, but their minutes are being monitored. LeBron played just 27.6 minutes Sunday vs. the Raptors, while Davis played 33.5.
This puts the Lakers in a tricky position. They need to maximize the health of Davis and James heading into the playoffs if they’re going to repeat as NBA champions, but they have plummeted down the standings of late. They’re currently tied with the Blazers for the sixth-best record in the Western Conference, and they own the No. 7 seed by virtue of the tiebreaker. That means they would be in the play-in tournament if the postseason started today, which is obviously not an ideal situation.
The Lakers still own the second-best odds to win the title on FanDuel Sportsbook at +460, but that’s the worst that their odds have been all season.
