Deportivo Alaves is welcoming Atletico Madrid to Estadio de Mendizorroza in round 7 of the Spanish LaLiga. Alaves is on a 6-game losing streak, and they are in the last place in the LaLiga standings. Atletico Madrid is still undefeated this season, but they have won only 1 of their last 3 games.
Alaves has been just terrible so far this season, and they have scored only 1 goal while conceding 11 goals. As I’ve mentioned, Alaves is in the last place with 0 points, and the situation looks pretty bleak for them right now. In their last game against Espanyol, Alaves was actually decent with 47% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, 0 big chances created, and 76% of the correct passes. Even though they were decent in this game, Alaves has conceded a goal from the penalty kick in the second half, and they just weren’t able to get back into this game. Alaves has lost this game 1-0. Joselu is the only goalscorer for Alaves so far this season. Lopez and Mendez are injured. Alaves is a weak team, weaker than last season, and I’m afraid they will get relegated unless something changes drastically.
Atletico is doing a decent job so far this season, they are undefeated, and they are in 2nd place with 14 points. Atletico is capable of so much more in the attacking end, and I think that will come, but their defense is what has to be fixed right now. Atletico has conceded 5 goals in 6 games, and that is something most of the teams would be happy with, but not Atletico Madrid. Correa and Suarez are the leading goalscorers for Atletico with 3 goals each. Lemar is injured while Felix is suspended because of the red card. In their last game against Getafe on the road, Atletico was the better team with 69% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 3 big chances created, and 81% of the correct passes. After losing since the 45th minute, Atletico scored 2 late goals, and they have deservedly won this match 1-2. Atletico is facing Milan on the road in the Champions League next week, but they have gotten some injured players back, and that will certainly help them with the depth needed for that game.
Alaves is in such terrible form that I won’t even concern myself with previous games. Atletico is the better team here, and even though they will be playing in the Champions League next week, I see them getting a win here as well.
