Past meetings have tended towards low scoring, with the total topping 140 just once in their past four. However, both these teams have enjoyed opportunities to run up the score during their respective undefeated starts. The Bulldogs have claimed victory by double-digit margins twice while going 4-0 SU, while the Broncos have consistently rewarded sports bettors with four straight ATS wins while claiming victory by an average margin of 21.8 points during that stretch.

Fresno State Bulldogs Outlook

After enduring a middling 12-12 SU campaign in 2020/2021, the Bulldogs have stormed out of the gate to four straight victories, capped by Sunday’s 70-63 win over Pepperdine as 6.5-point chalk to open the SoCal Challenge. Overall, the club has claimed victory by an average margin of 10 points. However, they failed to dominate as expected in a relatively narrow 69-62 win over Idaho last week, in which they were pegged as heavy 22.5-point home favorites.

Indeed, the Bulldogs’ tendency toward producing streaky results is reflected in their recent track record at the sportsbooks, where they have covered in just two of their past five dates with Division I opponents, and alternated between lengthy ATS winning and losing streaks since the start of last season. The squad has been particularly unpredictable on the road, where they have covered four times during a current 2-3 SU run after going winless SU and ATS in their previous eight.

The upside for the Bulldogs is the continued strong play of Orlando Robinson. The junior big man is once again powering the Fresno State offense while leading the team with 19.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game, including a 16-point, six-rebound performance in Sunday’s win over Pepperdine.

Santa Clara Broncos Outlook

Like Fresno State, the Broncos are also enjoying a fast start in the wake of a 2020/2021 campaign that ended in an ordinary fashion. Santa Clara has cracked the top 20 in the nation in scoring during their torrid 5-0 SU start, averaging 88.0 points per game, and now sit at No. 53 in the Kenpom adjusted offense ratings. The Broncos have also been a reliable bet in the early going, racking up a 4-0-1 ATS record that features a trio of outright wins as betting underdogs, capped by Monday’s 85-66 rout of TCU as 3.5-point underdogs to kick off their SoCal Challenge schedule.

The Broncos’ high-scoring ways have also extended the steady run by the OVER late last season. The total has finished OVER in each of the squad’s first five contests, topping 140 by a wide margin in four of those outings, and in nine of their past 10 overall.

Junior guard Jalen Williams has steadily rounded into form during the broncos’ fast start and has averaged 24 points per game while leading the team in scoring in each of their past two outings. Senior big man Keshawn Justice has been a reliable presence in the paint, racking up a team-high eight rebounds per game, and posting double-doubles on two occasions so far this season.

The Pick: Over 142.5 (-110)
