Kristaps Porzingis Doubtful Saturday Night

Kristaps Porzingis was a late entry on the Dallas Mavericks injury report. Brad Townsend tweeted that the forward is doubtful Saturday night against the Houston Rockets with a right knee injury.

The Unicorn hasn’t missed a beat since joining the Mavs, posting 20.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds, both of which are above career averages. It’s been a busy week for the Mavs as this will be their fifth game in seven nights. Porzingis missed the first nine games of the season with a meniscus injury.

The Mavs roster is already thin due to several players being out due to health and safety protocols. That could mean that James Johnson slots into the starting power forward spot. Willie Cauley-Stein will likely be the biggest beneficiary of Porzingis’ absence tonight. The center has posted double-digit point totals in three of his last five games and takes more looks, averaging 6.6 shots per game. Porzingis’ absence could also mean that Luka Doncic takes over this game. Doncic has a $10,800 salary, with Cauley-Stein’s at $5,300.

The Mavs opened -9.5 but have been bought down to -7.5; this number might fall a little further before tip-off.
