Liverpool and Milan are clashing at Anfield in round 1 of Group B of the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool has had a great start of the season in the EPL, and they are undefeated in their first 4 games. Milan is now on a 4-game winning streak, and they have also won their first 3 games in Serie A.
With 10 points, 9 scored goals, and only 1 conceded a goal so far this season, Liverpool is now in 3rd place, and their defense has been looking great. Yes, Liverpool didn’t play against the best opponents so far in the EPL, but they have looked well. If I would need to pick the favorite to win this group, I would pick Liverpool because they are a good team on both ends, and they have a solid depth. In their last game against Leeds this past weekend, Liverpool was the better team with 56% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, 5 big chances created, and a solid 87% of the correct passe. Liverpool had a 0-2 lead at the start of the second half, and once Leeds has conceded a red card, it was game over. Liverpool has won this game 0-3. Elliott is now the only injured player for Liverpool. As I’ve mentioned, Liverpool is a good team, Salah is in great form, and I think they will have a good game.
The thing I’m surprised the most with Milan is their defense that has looked really well so far this season. Milan has scored 7 goals so far, while they conceded only 1 goal so far. With 9 points, Milan is in 2nd place, but they have the same number of points as Roma and Napoli. The bad news for Milan is they lost Ibrahimovic for this game because of an injury, but he should be ready for the Serie A game on the weekend. Milan was playing against Lazio in a derby this past weekend, and they have had 47% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and 86% of the correct passes. With one scored goal in each half, Milan has won this game 2-0. Milan is playing in the Champions League for the first time after 8 years, and they haven’t gotten an easy group. I think Milan is a solid team, they have a lot of good players, but they will need to be on top of their game to get to the next stage, and even that might not be enough.
The trends are on Milan’s side in this matchup, and I think this will be a fantastic game. Liverpool hasn’t lost any of their last 9 home games, while Milan hasn’t lost any of their last 5 games. Both teams are in good form, and even without Ibrahimovic, Milan has enough to score a goal here.
