Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets NBA Picks, Odds, Predictions 5/12/21

The Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers do battle at the Staples Center on Wednesday night.

The Houston Rockets have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost 21 of their last 24 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a six-game slide after falling short against the Trailblazers in a 140-129 road loss on Monday. Kelly Olynyk led the team with 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, DJ Augustin added 21 points while Khyri Thomas and Armoni Brooks each scored 18 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 49 percent from the field and 18 of 38 from the 3-point line but their defense early on really let them down as they were always fighting an uphill battle after allowing 50 points in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past five games and they will be aiming for a third straight win after last night’s 101-99 overtime win over the Knicks. Kyle Kuzma led the team with 23 points on nine of 17 shooting off the bench, Anthony Davis added 20 points with six rebounds and four assists while Andre Drummond chipped in with 16 points, 18 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41 percent from the field and 12 of 28 from the 3-point line, but they overcame a late 10-point deficit, by holding the Knicks to just 15 points in the fourth quarter, before escaping in overtime by the skin of their teeth.

I will update with betting trends once they become available.

The Rockets have really struggled for form all season and they’re coming into this one fresh off a sixth straight loss after allowing 140 points to the Trailblazers on Monday. The Lakers have had to play without a lot of their key players, but they’ll need to finish off the regular season on a high note as they’ll want to head into the play-in tournament with a bit of momentum. I do think the Lakers get the job done in this one, but they’re playing on zero days’ rest after an overtime game, so I’d rather side with the Rockets to hang around long enough to get the backdoor cover.
