Los Angeles Lakers vs. Miami Heat News and Notes

It’s a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals but with a much different feel between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. Finals MVP LeBron James will miss his tenth-straight game and ankle sprain, while Anthony Davis hasn’t played in almost two months with a strained Achilles. The shorthanded Lakers have gone 4-6 since losing LeBron against the Hawks on March 20 but have been playing better lately.

LA has won four of their past six, most recently taking care of business on the road against the Raptors on Tuesday night. The Lakers used a balanced scoring attack and stingy defense to gut out the 110-101 win. Seven players scored in double-digits led by Talen Horton-Tucker’s team-high 17 off the bench. Markieff Morris added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Marc Gasol had a nice all-around game with 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four blocks. LA’s defense held Toronto to just 39 percent shooting from the field and 15 percent from three-point land.

They will have some help from the injury front as newly acquired Andre Drummond is set to return after missing three games after leaving his Lakers debut with a toe issue. Kyle Kuzma is a game-time decision dealing with a strained left calf.

Miami had a four-game win streak broken on Tuesday night on their home floor hosting the Memphis Grizzlies. The Heat defense did not have their best game allowing the Grizz to put up 124 points. It is a bit of an abnormal performance for the league’s fourth-best defense that allows just 107 points a game. Miami did have some big performances on the offensive end despite the loss. Jimmy Butler put up a game-high 28 while Bam Adebayo had a triple-double. Adebayo had 18 points, ten assists, and ten assists to go along with three steals. Tyler Herro led all bench scorers with 19 points in the loss.

The Heat is in a logjam-packed East with five teams within two games fighting for the final guaranteed playoff series spot. Miami has a half-game lead for that berth sitting in sixth at 26-25.

Los Angeles hasn’t covered in four straight following a win, while the Heat has met the spread just once in their past six following an against the spread loss. The Lakers have gone under in six of seven and eight of ten games, while Miami has gone over in three straight and five of their past seven. Miami has covered in five of six against LA, while the under has been the play in four of five head-to-head meetings.
