The American Eagles and the Loyola Greyhounds meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Reitz Arena.
American comes into this one at 2-4 so far. The Eagles have lost to Navy in their last two games. As for Loyola, they’re sitting at 3-8 this year. The Greyhounds are 2-1 in their last three and coming off a loss to Lehigh. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
American hasn’t had a chance to play many games this year due to their late start and postponements. The Eagles started out with two losses to Navy, then beat Loyola MD twice. In their last pair of games, American recorded two more losses to Navy.
In the 69-60 loss to Navy on Sunday, American’s Jamir Harris carried the team as the only double-digit scorer on 30 points, two rebounds and two assists. Josh Alexander chipped in eight points with four rebounds and five assists as well.
Over on the Loyola side, they haven’t had much luck this season either. The Greyhounds started with five straight losses before finally notching a win over Lafayette. Since then it’s been a 2-3 stretch for Loyola with two losses to Lafayette and a loss to Lehigh in that time.
In the 76-72 loss to Lehigh on Sunday, Loyola’s Santi Aldama doubled up on 24 points with 18 rebounds and one assist. Both Jaylin Andrews and Kenny Jones posted 10 points in that one as well; Jones added five rebounds and three assists.
The over is 4-1 in the Greyhounds’ last five overall and 17-8 in their last 25 home games. Loyola is 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games. American is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and the under is 5-2 in their last seven road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Loyola here, but probably staying away. The last time these teams met was a pair of wins for American, 71-70 and 81-79 (in triple overtime). The Greyhounds have been scoring pretty well for most of the season and have hit 72 or more in each of their last six games. As long as Loyola can keep it together on defense I think they’ve got a good shot at a cover.
