Miami Marlins vs Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 5/5/21

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Miami Marlins meet Wednesday in MLB action from Marlins Park.

This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams this week. In the Tuesday opener, the Marlins posted a big six-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona did well against the Rockies over the weekend, losing on Saturday but winning the other three games to take the set. In the Tuesday game versus Miami, Arizona gave up three runs in the first inning but tied it up late. The Diamondbacks coughed up six runs in the eighth inning and fell 9-3, however.
For the Wednesday starting pitcher role, the Diamondbacks will send out Luke Weaver. Over his five outings so far this year, Weaver has 25.2 innings with 24 hits, 14 earned runs, five homers allowed, nine walks, 23 strikeouts and a 4.91 ERA.

Over on the Marlins’ side, they had trouble with the Nationals over the weekend in a three-game sweep defeat. In the Tuesday game, Miami got their offense going with 12 hits in the victory. Lewis Brinson finished with two hits and three RBI.

For Wednesday’s game, the Marlins are sending out Pablo Lopez. In his six starts this year, Lopez has 34.2 total innings with 28 hits, 10 runs (nine earned), three homers allowed, 10 walks, 34 strikeouts and a 2.34 ERA overall.

The Diamondbacks are 10-3 in their last 13 overall and 10-3 in their last 13 on grass. Arizona is 7-19 in their last 26 on the road with the total set at 7.0-8.5 and the over is 5-1 in their last six Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 9-20 in their last 29 Wednesday games and 15-36 in their last 51 in game two of a series. The over is 5-1 in Miami’s last six in game two of a series and the under is 5-2-1 in their last eight home games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Marlins here. Lopez has been great over his last three starts, and he matched a career-high with seven scoreless innings versus the Nationals in his last game. As for Weaver, he’s given up 11 earned runs over his last 13.0 innings. Miami is really monitoring their starters’ innings this year, but if Lopez can get through five or six good frames I think the Marlins will be in solid shape.
