The Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders meet in NHL action from the UBS Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to build on their 2-1 OT win over the Detroit Red Wings last time out. Steven Stamkos leads the Lightning in scoring with 69 points including a team-high 29 goals along with 40 assists while Victor Hedman also has 62 points with a team-high 45 assists as well this season. Alex Killorn has 49 points with 19 goals and 30 assists for the Bolts this season. Andrei Vaslievskiy has seen the bulk of the workload between the pipes for Tampa Bay this season, posting a record of 32-14-4 with a 2.39 GAA and a .920 save percentage on the year.
The New York Islanders will hope to bounce back from a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins last time out. Anders Lee has 38 points with 25 goals and Noah Dobson’s got 37 points with 27 assists. Ilya Sorokin has gone 22-13-7 with a 2.29 GAA and a .927 save percentage this season.
Tampa Bay is 41-18 in their last 59 games as a favorite and 2-5 in their last 7 road games while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. New York is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-22 in their last 28 games as an underdog while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 home games.
I get the case to be made for both teams here, but I’m going to take a shot with the Islanders here. Tampa Bay is the better team and need this game for playoff positioning, but the Islanders need this game to even remain in the playoff conversation in the event that they’re able to make a late run in the standings. The Lightning are reeling right now and this might be New York’s best shot at a win here. Give me the Islanders and the plus money at home.
