- The New York Jets drafted two Michael Carters in the 2021 NFL Draft.
- New York took UNC running back Michael Carter in the 4th round
- The Jets selected corner back Michael Carter from Duke in the 5th round of the draft.
The NFL’s 2021 Draft didn’t come without surprises.
Trey Lance went third overall to the San Francisco 49ers while Mac Jones went all the way down to 15th overall to the New England Patriots. For starters, that was just in Day 1. Day 3 of the Draft had its own kind of surprise.
The New York Jets drafted “Michael Carter” twice in Day 3, but two different Michael Carters. No joke here.

The Jets selected North Carolina running back Michael Carter in the 4th round. The first Michael Carter is coming off an impressive season with the Tar Heels. He rushed for a total of 1,245 yards with nine touchdowns while leading FBS with 8 yards per rush, also a school record. At the end of the season, this Michael Carter was named to the All-ACC team and was selected as a Third-Team All-American.
Then with their 154th pick of the draft, or two picks later, the Jets selected Michael Carter who was a defensive back at Duke. In his final season with the Blue Devils, the “second” Michael Carter recored 41 tackles, defended 8 passes, and had two interceptions. This Michael Carter, however goes by the name Michael Carter II so, that should help the Jets coaching staff.
Both Michael Carters have the potential to excel at the pro level. Running back Michael Carter should be able to compete for the starting job with the Jets while the defensive back Michael Carter could be a day one starter for New York. It will be interesting to see how head coach Robert Saleh addresses them on the practice field but the “II” on the defensive Michael Carter should be the key.
Jets Drafted Well
The Jets draft class: 1. QB Zach Wilson, BYU; 1a. G Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC; 2. WR Elijah Moore, Ole Miss; 4. RB Michael Carter, North Carolina; 5. LB Jamien Sherwood, Auburn; 5a. DB Michael Carter II, Duke; 5b. CB Jason Pinnock, Pitt; 6. LB Hamsah… https://t.co/lSTOmWCnOE

The Jets drafted well as they have significantly bolstered their offense. After selecting Zach Wilson with the no. 2 overall pick of the draft, they traded up to pick offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker to give Wilson protection. Then they added a weapon for Wilson by selecting wide receiver Elijah Moore in the second round.
Then the Jets drafted their Michael Carters with their 4th and 5th rounds picks. Running back Carter could easily become the week 1 starter for the Jets and could end up like the Jaguars’ James Robinson. With New York lacking depth at the cornerback position, Michael Carter II could also get the start for the Jets.
New York has the 4th longest odds to win Super Bowl LVI at +8000 at online sportsbook SportsBetting.ag. The same bookmaker also has them with the longest odds to win the AFC East at +1400. But while the best NFL betting sites aren’t too high on the Jets for the upcoming season, the future does look encouraging for the Jets.
