Both the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins will be missing some key parts of their offense on Saturday night. Taylor Haase noted that Evgeni Malkin was not warming up with the Pens, and John Carlson and Alex Ovechkin were not in the Caps’ warmups.
All three players have been integral parts of their respective lineups. Ovechkin leads the Capitals with 24 goals this season, while Carlson is tied with Ovechkin for second on the team with 42 points.
Malkin has only played in 29 games this season but has been effective, scoring 24 points in those games. Hockey-Reference has calculated his Offensive Point Shares to be 1.8, which puts him seventh on the Penguins.
Saturday night’s matchup is pivotal to determining the winner of the NHL East Division. The Caps and Pens are tied with 69 points, although the Caps hold the tiebreaker by having a game in hand.
FanDuel Sportsbook has the game listed as a pick’em, with a total set at 6.5, with the under bought up to -115.
