Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 9/15/2021

The Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from PNC Park on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to bounce back from a 6-5 loss at the hands of Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Tucker Barnhart had two RBIs while Nick Castellanos had a solo home run. Jonathan India and Kyle Farmer each had an RBI to make up the scoring for Cincinnati in the defeat. Eugenio Suarez had a pair of hits and Joey Votto had a double while Mike Moustakas, Max Schrock and Delino DeShields each had a base hit as well to round out Cincinnati’s offense as a team in the losing effort. Wade Miley took the loss, falling to 12-6 after allowing five earned runs on ten hits over 4.1 innings of work. Vladimir Gutierrez will start here and is 9-6 with a 4.05 ERA and 82 strikeouts this season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to build on their win over the Reds from Tuesday. Yoshi Tsutsugo and Jacob Stallings each had two hits with two RBIs with Stallings belting a double while Den Gamel had two hits with a double and an RBI as well in the win. Ke’Bryan Hayes had a pair of hits while Kevin Newman and Wilmer Difo each had a base hit to round out the offense for the Pirates in the winning effort. Dillon Peters got the win to improve to 1-2 after tossing five shutout innings, allowing five hits while striking out five. Chris Stratton closed the 9th for his 5th save of the year. Mitch Keller will start here and is 4-11 with a 6.29 ERA and 82 strikeouts this season.

Cincinnati is 3-7 in their last 10 game two matchups and 1-6 in their last 7 Wednesday games while the under is 10-2 in their last 12 games as a road favorite. Pittsburgh is 6-2 in their last 8 home games and 17-35 in their last 52 games overall while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 games as an underdog.

I get the case that you could make for both sides here, but I’m leaning towards the under. We all know about Pittsburgh’s struggles and while he’s had his ups and downs as of late, I feel like Vlad Gutierrez is best suited to handle those struggles being on the road, where he’s pitched far better. Mitch Keller on the other hand is always a possibility to throw a gem when you least expect it and I think there’s a high chance we get an under here.
