Portugal is welcoming Serbia to Estadio do Luz in the clash of Group A in the UEFA World Cup Qualifications. Portugal is at the top for now, but they failed to secure that spot against Ireland, which means they need at least the draw in this game. Serbia has been outstanding in these qualifications, and they absolutely deserve to qualify for the World Cup, but this will be a tough game for them, and they need a win.
Portugal was playing against Ireland in their last game, and they have had 51% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 8 shots inside the box, and 81% of the correct passes. Despite a lot of shots, Portugal wasn’t able to score a goal, and this match ended in a 0-0 draw. Portugal has also conceded a red card, and they will be without Pepe in this game. Of the 16 goals Portugal has scored, Ronaldo has 6, while Jota added 4 goals. I know Portugal is playing at home, they will have massive support from their fans, but they are facing a strong offensive team, while Portugal is not really consistent in the attacking. I think this will be a good game, but Portugal has their work cut out for them.
Serbia has been outstanding as I’ve mentioned, they have scored 16 goals while conceding 8, and they have the same number of points as Portugal at the top, 17. Serbia is also on a nice 3-game winning streak, while they haven’t lost in their last 6 games. During this 6-game winning streak, Serbia has scored 17 goals, and they now have 3 excellent strikers who are in fantastic form for their teams. Mitrovic is the leading goalscorer for Serbia with 7 goals, while Vlahovic added 4 goals. I must admit, Serbia has improved a lot over the last few years, they finally have the depth, they have a lot of quality, and they are scoring a ton of goals. Even if Serbia doesn’t win the top spot and qualifies for the World Cup directly, they are still good enough to qualify through the playoffs. I would love to see Serbia at the World Cup, I think they deserved it, and I hope they get there.
We usually see quite a few goals in this matchup, and I think it will be the same here. And while Portugal doesn’t need to attack and doesn’t need the win, Serbia does, and I see them scoring at least one goal here, and maybe even win this game.
