Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic 5/31/22 French Open Tennis Picks, Predictions, Odds

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal meet in the quarterfinals of the 2022 tennis French Open.

Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight set win over Diego Schwartzman that took 25 games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 74 percent of his first serve points and 54 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 67 percent of his total service points and converted on 6 of his 11 break points. Djokovic has yet to drop a set this tournament, and he’s won each of his last 22 sets overall. While a shaky start to the season, it’s fair to say Djokovic is back in one of those rare forms where he’s hard to bet against. Djokovic looks to make a grand slam semifinal for the fifth straight appearance. Djokovic is 11-4 in French Open quarterfinal matches. Djokovic has won his last nine matches on clay court.

Rafael Nadal is coming off a five sets win over Felix Auger-Aliassime that took 44 games to decide. In the victory, Nadal won 67 percent of his first serve points and 66 percent of his second serve points. Nadal won 66 percent of his total service points and converted on 6 of his 22 break points. Nadal wasn’t as sharp with his serve as we’re used to seeing, and he needed nearly four and a half hours to advance. Nadal has won his last three five set matches. Nadal looks to make his third straight grand slam semifinal trip and his sixth straight semifinal in the French Open. Nadal is 14-1 in career French Open quarterfinal matches, with that lone loss coming in 2015 against Djokovic. Nadal has won seven of his last nine matches on clay court.

Djokovic and Nadal have split the last 10 meetings, with Djokovic winning the most recent match last year in the French Open. Nadal is 7-2 against Djokovic in French Open meetings, and he’s 10-7 against him in grand slam matches overall. Nadal is 19-8 against Djokovic on clay court.

Djokovic is in better form, he’s healthier at this stage, and he surely has more in the tank after not dropping a single set. Nadal continues to battle injury concerns, and playing nearly four and a half hours likely doesn’t help matters. Djokovic should be the favorite. However, we’re getting Nadal as an underdog on clay and I don’t care about any of the circumstances, I’m taking that every time and twice on Sunday.

Nadal on clay for plus money is too good to pass up, even if he’s rightfully the underdog.
