Rockies’ Antonio Senzatela Added to IL

It appears as though a right groin strain will keep Antonio Senzatela out of action for at least 10 days after the starting pitcher was transferred to the 10-day injured list on Saturday.

Senzatela made his last start on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, despite feeling some discomfort in his warmup. It’s been a rough start to 2021 for the hard-throwing righty. Senzatela has allowed 46 baserunners through 29.2 innings pitched this season, which has resulted in 21 runs against, 19 of which were earned. Unsurprisingly, the Rockies are 1-5 when Senzatela starts.

It’s unclear who will move into the Rockies’ starting rotation. Skipper Bud Black noted that Jhoulus Chacin could be an option, but alternate site pitching arms Ryan Rolison, the Rockies second-ranked prospect, or Jose Mujica could be asked to step in with Senzatela out of turn for his next stop in the rotation.

In a corresponding move, the Rockies’ 26th-ranked prospect Lucas Gilbreath was added to the Rockies roster. The left-handed throwing Gilbreath has yet to make his Major League debut.

The Rockies conclude their four-game set against the Diamondbacks tomorrow. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Rockies listed as +130 underdogs.
