Seventh seeded Russian Andrey Rublev will face tenth seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Rome Masters. The match is scheduled to be played on Thursday May 13th, 2021 at approximately 9:10am EST.
This is sure to be an exciting match between two of the very best players in the world. Both men are known for being extremely consistent, and are sure to put on a show for tennis fans. Will it be the explosive Russian Rublev getting the win here? Or the solid veteran Roberto Bautista Agut advancing the the Quarter-Finals here in Rome?
Andrey Rublev is currently ranked a career-high #7 in the ATP world rankings, and has stunned the tennis world by breaking into the top 10 seemingly out of nowhere. After dominating ATP-500 events or the past two years, he finally made the step up by reaching the Final in Monte-Carlo. With his huge groundstrokes and intense game, he is a very difficult opponent on any surface. He has started positively here in Rome, recovering from a slow start to cruise past Jan-Lennard Struff in the Second Round. While he lost the opening set, he always seemed in control of the match afterwards, and will be growing in confidence heading into this match against RBA.
Roberto Bautista Agut has been a fixture of the top 20 for the past few years, and has a reputation of being one of the most consistent and hardest workers on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard has an ultra-solid baseline game, with penetrating, flat groundstrokes that wreak havoc on his opponents. RBA has been in excellent form so far here in 2021, comfortably dispatching Tommy Paul and the in-form Cristian Garin in straight sets. While Rublev will be slightly favored, RBA is certainly capable of winning this match.
This match has the potential to go the distance, and I believe that it will. Andrey Rublev has been a standout performer on the ATP Tour recently, but RBA is one of the toughest players to beat and will not go down without a fight. Three sets in the match is probably the best bet here, but all things considered I am going with the reliable Roberto Bautista to get the victory here, advancing to the Quarter-Finals. He is just a bit too solid and mentally strong for the Russian to handle, especially given his shaky start here. RBA to win a very tight and exciting match.
