The Sam Houston State Bearkats will try to bounce back from a 72-59 loss to Boston last time out. Savion Flagg leads the Bearkats in scoring with 19 PPG along with 6.4 RPG while Demarkus Lampley has 10.2 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for the Bearkats up to this point in the season. Tristan Ikpe has a team-high 7.4 RPG while Jaden Ray has a team-high 3 APG as well this season. As a team, Sam Houston State is averaging 70.6 PPG on 39% shooting form the field, 30.9% from three and 53.8% from the foul line while allowing 67.2 PPG on 41.7% shooting from the field and 35.6% from three this season.
The SMU Mustangs will look to bounce back from a 78-70 loss at the hands of Loyola Marymount last time out. Kendric Davis leads the Mustangs in scoring and assists with 19.5 PPG and 5.3 APG while Marcus Weathers has 12.6 PPG with a team-high 7.2 RPG as the lone pair of double-digit scorers for the up to this point in the season. Zach Nutall and Emmanuel Bandoumel each have 9+ PPG as well for SMU this season. As a team, SMU is averaging 77.8 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field, 36.4% from three and 74.6% from the foul line while allowing 68.8 PPG on 39.5% shooting from the field and 27.4% from three this season.
Sam Houston State is 1-5 ATS in their alt 6 games as an underdog and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. SMU is 1-8 ATS in their last home games and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite.
I think this is a case that could be made either way here, but I’m going to side with the Bearkats and the points. Sure, SMU’s losses have been against some tough teams, but the Mustangs have stunk against the number this season. Sam Houston State has had their ups and downs, but this is just too many points. I’ll side with Sam Houston State here.
