The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs meet Friday in MLB action at Wrigley Field. The Cardinals need a win after losing eight of their last 10 games. The Cubs look for a win after winning three of their last four games.
The St. Louis Cardinals have scored 16 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in five of their last eight games. The Cardinals have lost five of their last six games when scoring three or less runs. Tommy Edman leads the Cardinals with 70 hits and 18 RBI while Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt have combined for 125 hits and 70 RBI. Johan Oviedo gets the ball, and he is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. Oviedo is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA and five strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs have scored 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last nine games. The Cubs have won 10 of their last 12 games when scoring four or more runs. Kris Bryant leads the Cubs with 65 hits and 38 RBI while Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez have combined for 100 hits and 65 RBI. Kyle Hendricks gets the ball, and he is 7-4 with a 4.59 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. Hendricks is 10-3 with a 2.81 ERA and 100 strikeouts in his career against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are 1-6 in their last 7 overall. The Cubs are 5-1 in their last 6 games following an off day and 17-5 in their last 22 home games. The over is 4-1 in Cardinals last 5 overall. The under is 4-1 in Cubs last 5 overall. The Cardinals are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in Chicago.
The Cardinals and the plus money is worth a look here given they’ve had success against the Cubs lately. However, the Cards are also in brutal form right now and Oviedo hasn’t been good in limited reps. The Cubs are enjoying a bounce back week and Hendricks is better than what he’s shown lately. Price isn’t cheap, but I’ll back the Cubs at home.
