The Phoenix Suns travel to Atlanta to face the Hawks in the second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday, May 5th, tip-off 8 PM EST. It was a gritty overtime win for Phoenix over the Cavs on Tuesday, which could possibly weigh them down against the well-rested Hawks.

However, both teams are playing very good basketball right now, with the Suns on a five-game winning streak, while Atlanta has collected two consecutive victories.

The last meeting back in March saw Phoenix secure a 117-110 win in the desert.

Suns Chasing Western Conference Title

It’s truly hard to comprehend that Phoenix was literally fighting to just stay out of the gutter last season. Now, they’re in the race for winning the West. The Chris Paul effect is real, along with the dominance of Devin Booker and several other role-players throughout the roster.

The Suns are currently tied with the Utah Jazz in top spot with a 47-18 record after beating Cleveland. It was no easy victory for Monty Williams’ team though. Collin Sexton and the Cavs gave CP3 and co. a serious run for their money, even pushing the game to an extra period. But, they ultimately ran out of gas, with Phoenix outscoring their opponents 20-4 in OT.

Book showed out for 31, while Paul was absolutely tremendous in all aspects, dishing out 16 assists while also dropping 23 points. It’s crazy to think that everywhere the 35-year-old goes, he wins. This is a very exciting team that should do some serious damage come playoff time.

On Tuesday, the Suns thrived off Cleveland’s 17 turnovers, registering 23 points in return. They also registered almost half of their points in the paint, which is certainly a nice change from the three-point heavy basketball we’re used to seeing on a nightly basis across the Association.

Phoenix is truly one of the hottest teams around right now, going 11-3 in their last 14 games. They’ve also excelled on the road, compiling an impressive 21-9 record.

Hawks Continue to Impress

Atlanta has been one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this season alongside the Suns as they currently sit in fifth spot in the East with a 36-30 record. Nate McMillan’s arrival has done wonders for this team, going 21-11 since he took over for Lloyd Pierce.

The Hawks managed to secure yet another victory on Monday, beating Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers, 123-114. Both teams were red-hot from long range, but Atlanta’s 49% clip ultimately played a huge part. Danilo Gallinari drained seven triples on his own, leading the team with 28 points. In fact, Gallinari, Trae Young, and Bogdan Bogdanovic all dropped over 20 in the win, while John Collins added 15 points.

Atlanta also proved to be the more dominant figure on the boards, out-rebounding Portland 49-39. The ball movement was tremendous as well, registering 32 assists. Young on his own dished out 11 dimes.

Currently just a game and a half above the seventh place Celtics, who hold a play-in spot, the Hawks are doing everything possible to avoid the tournament. The Knicks sit just above them in fourth, too. If they continue to play at a high level, a top-six seeding will certainly be in the cards.

ATL is thriving at State Farm Arena as well, winning six straight contests. Overall, McMillan’s squad is 20-11 on home court. With six games left and five of them in Atlanta, they’ll be looking to finish the season strong and put themselves in a prime position for the playoffs.

This is a tough one to call because both teams play well on the road and at home. Phoenix on one hand is very hot right now, but they did just play an extra five-minute period on Tuesday night and need to travel and get right back to it the following night.

The Suns are 31-20 as ATS favorites and have beaten their opponents by just over an average of nine points across this five-game unbeaten streak. Atlanta meanwhile, is 16-16 as ATS underdogs.

However, I see the value in the Hawks Moneyline here. They’re rolling at home and Phoenix is going to be slightly worn out after Tuesday.

Pick: Atlanta Hawks +118
