Terence Crawford has opened as a sizeable betting favorite to beat Shawn Porter in their recently booked bout.

After the WBO ordered the fight last July, Crawford and Porte have finally come to terms to a welterweight title fight on November 20, 2021, at the Michelob ULTRA Arena ( formerly Mandalay Bay) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The bout will mark Crawford’s fifth defense of the WBO welterweight he from Jeff Horn in June 2018. Bud has been dominant since winning the belt but after dominating his four previous title defenses, he is expected to face his stiffest test to date in Porter.

Crawford Opens at -550

This marks the “worst” opening odds at which Crawford has opened a fight since he was listed as a -530 odds on favorite when the betting lines for his July 23, 2016 bout against Viktor Postol were released. Bud went on to score a wide unanimous decision win over Postol to become a unified 140-pound champion. Two fights later, Crawford would earn undisputed status, becoming the first fighter since Jermain Taylor in 2005 to hold the four major belts in a weight class.

In the eight fights that he’s taken since beating Postol, Crawford has looked dominant, both on the odds boards and inside the ring. He opened as the favorite of at least at the best boxing betting sites, with his bouts against Egidijus Kavaliauskas (-800) and Julius Indongo (-850) as the two exceptions. Bud won all eight bouts via stoppage with no opponent going beyond 10 rounds with him during that span.

Crawford knocked out former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook in his most recent bout last November 20, 2020. Bud closed as the heavy -1200 betting favorite to beat Brook in that bout and he wasted no time in disposing of him. Crawford caught Brook with a huge right hand that forced a standing eight count in Round 4. Moments later, he pounced on a dazed Brook and finished him off with a flurry of punches.

Porter Dominates Formella

Porter meanwhile, dominated an overmatched Sebastian Formella as a -2500 betting favorite over 12 rounds to win the WBC silver welterweight champion in August 2020. The bout was his first since losing a very narrow split decision against Errol Spence Jr. in a welterweight title unification bout on September 28, 2019.

Showtime has seen the plus money sign next to his name in three out of his last six bouts. Porter was a +155 when he lost to Keith Thurman in 2016 and was also a massive +600 bottom dog when he was beaten by Errol Spence Jr. in The other time he was underdog during this span was when he closed as a +155 underdog against Danny Garcia in 2018. Porter outworked Garcia to earn a unanimous decision win and capture the WBC welterweight title. By doing so, he became a two-time welterweight champion.

Porter will be a different animal from the other opponents that Spence has faced. The Akron, Ohio native is one of the most durable welterweights in the business as he has never been knocked out. Porter is also a tireless workhorse in the ring who always looks to outwork his opponent with his volume and pressure. Of his three losses, one was via majority decision and the other a split decision.
