The Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers meet Sunday in MLB action from Globe Life Field.
This will be the final installment of a four-game set between these teams over the weekend. After a split in the first pair of games, on Saturday the Rangers took the lead again with a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Boston could only muster a single run in the Thursday game and ended up falling 4-1, but flipped things around Friday with a 6-1 victory. On Saturday in game three, Boston posted 12 hits but gave up 13 on the other side in an 8-6 loss. Starter Eduardo Rodriguez went 5.0 innings with eight hits and four earned.
For the Sunday finale, the Sox will send out Garrett Richards in the starting role. So far through five appearances Richards has 23.2 innings with 25 hits, 15 runs (13 earned), three homers allowed, 13 walks, 22 strikeouts and a 4.94 ERA.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they played a solid game Thursday but couldn’t keep up in the Friday matchup with just the lone RBI from Brock Holt. On Saturday, Texas had their offense working with a couple of big innings. Jordan Lyles managed 4.0 innings with five earned.
For the Sunday matchup, the Rangers will send out Mike Foltynewicz in the start. Across five games thus far Foltynewicz has 27.1 innings with 28 hits, 14 earned runs, eight homers allowed, seven walks, 26 strikeouts and a 4.61 ERA overall.
The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last five in game four of a series and 40-16 in their last 56 games as a favorite. Boston is 70-31 in their last 101 road games versus a team with a losing record and the over is 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games and 12-28 in their last 40 in game four of a series. Texas is 20-44 in their last 64 on grass and the over is 13-3 in their last 16 in game four of a series.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Red Sox in this one. Richards is coming off his best game of the season so far, notching 10 strikeouts with one earned in 7.0 innings versus the Mets. Foltynewicz did well in his last game also, but he’s given up five homers in his last three games and eight on the season so far. Boston should have some opportunities with the long ball in this game, so it should be an interesting one.
