Texas Rangers vs San Diego Padres MLB Picks, Odds, Predictions 4/9/21

The San Diego Padres and the Texas Rangers meet Friday in MLB action from Globe Life Field.

The Padres are coming off a series versus the Giants this week. San Diego won Tuesday but fell in the other two games. As for the Rangers, they played the Blue Jays this week. Texas took that series with wins Tuesday and Wednesday. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego managed to win three straight versus the Diamondbacks to start the season, but they’re just 1-3 since then. The Padres went 1-2 against the Giants this week, with a 3-2 loss on Wednesday. Starter Blake Snell put up 5.0 innings with two earned, four walks and eight Ks in that one.

For the Friday starting pitcher role, the Padres will send out Joe Musgrove. In his debut on April 3, Musgrove had a great game. He went 6.0 innings with no earned, three hits, eight Ks and no walks. Dating back to last year Musgrove has three consecutive starts of six or more IP with no runs.

Over on the Rangers’ side, they managed to win just one of three in their opener series versus the Royals, but have played better since then. Texas won Tuesday and Wednesday versus the Blue Jays. Wednesday starter Kyle Gibson posted 6.0 innings with eight Ks and no earned.

For the starter slot on Friday, the Rangers are going with Kohei Arihara. In his first start versus the Royals on Saturday, Arihara put up three runs on six hits with one strikeout in five innings. This spring Arihara was 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work.

The Padres are 7-1 in their last eight Friday games and 10-4 in their last 14 interleague road games. San Diego is 31-15 in their last 46 overall and 17-8 in their last 25 versus the Al West.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are 5-1 in their last six home games and 15-32 in their last 47 overall. Texas is 4-10 in their last 14 after a win and 15-32 in their last 47 on grass.

PICK: I’m sticking with the Padres here. We should have a pretty interesting starting pitching matchup on our hands, with Arihara getting another chance to beef up his strikeout number. I like both guys to pitch well in this one, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the game decided on some late-inning heroics. I like the San Diego offense slightly better on the win, though.
