The Citadel vs Mercer College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 1/20/21

The Mercer Bears and the Citadel Bulldogs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McAlister Field House.

Mercer enters this game at 8-4 overall. The Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Western Carolina in their last game. as for the Citadel, they’re 8-3 this season. The Bulldogs have lost three straight, most recently to UNC Greensboro. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Mercer began their year with six straight wins over North Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, CIU, Southern Wesleyan and Georgia Southern. Since then the Bears are just 2-4 with losses to Georgia State, Wofford, Furman and Chattanooga alongside wins over Kennesaw State and Western Carolina.

In Saturday’s 78-76 win over the Catamounts, Mercer’s Neftali Alvarez led the team on 24 points with three rebounds and one assist. Maciej Bender added 22 points with seven boards, and Leon Ayers chipped in 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes of action.

Over on the Citadel side, they began their year with eight straight wins, taking out Piedmont, NC A&T, Toccoa Falls, CIU, Carver, Longwood, Presbyterian and Chattanooga. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Bulldogs, however; they’ve fallen to Furman, VMI and UNC Greensboro in their last trio.

In Monday’s 87-73 loss to the Spartans, the Citadel’s Hayden Brown topped the team on 14 points with six boards and two assists. Kaiden Rice added 12 points with six rebounds, and Rudy Fitzgibbons had 11 points with two boards and one assist in 18 minutes on the floor.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. The Citadel are 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall and the over is 5-1 in their last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Bears are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Mercer is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and the over is 7-2 in the last nine overall.

PICK: I’m going with the Bulldogs in this one. Both these teams have struggled in their last few games, and both could use a victory here. The Bears have scored well over their last three outings with 78 or more points in each, but they’re just 1-2 in that time. As for the Citadel, they’ve hit 73 or more in every game so far this year. This should be another high-scoring outing, and if they play to their capabilities I think the Bulldogs can bang out a cover here. Should be a good matchup.
