Top NBA Betting Picks for Tuesday, February 23

The Washington Wizards sunk the Los Angeles Lakers in overtime last night, and headlines are swirling about whether LeBron James can carry this team without Anthony Davis. While the Lakers will get a night off, the Wizards will jump right back into action with a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Our experts don’t expect them to pull off two upsets in a row.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Tuesday, February 23, provided by BettingPros experts James Bisson and Isaiah Sirois (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Lock of the Day

Bisson: Nets -6.5 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

I’m sure I missed something here, but I’m not sure what. The Nets have looked like the most dominant team in the NBA, having ripped off six straight victories even without the injured Kevin Durant. And sure, they played last night, but will they really need to break much of a sweat against a Kings team that has dropped seven straight, with each loss coming by 8+ points? Brooklyn is on a whole other level right now and should cover with ease.

Sirois: Hawks -7 (-110 at FOX Bet)

The Cleveland Cavaliers are the NBA’s worst team against the spread. Their 10-21 ATS record is incredibly awful, and things have only gotten worse for them recently. They haven’t scored within 10 points of their opponent since Feb. 8, back when Andre Drummond was still starting, and the Hawks just need to cover a 7.5-point gap. Over their last three games, Cleveland ranks 27th in offensive efficiency and 29th in defensive efficiency. In contrast, the Hawks have flashed some life, as they rank as fifth in offensive efficiency through that span. My model predicts at least a 7.4-point win for Atlanta tonight, and that’s enough for them to cover.

Top Team Prop of the Day

Bisson: Wizards Under 110.5 (-115 at FD Sportsbook)

There’s no scenario in which the Wizards are a good bet to surpass this number. They played a grueling overtime decision against the Lakers on Monday, with both Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal racking up 44 minutes. The Wizards have another back-to-back later in the week, so we shouldn’t be surprised to see Russ sit this one out – especially with the Wiz as 12-point underdogs. The Clippers should have no trouble keeping a weary Washington offense at bay.

Sirois: Nuggets and Blazers Over 59.5 First-Quarter Points (+100 at FD Sportsbook)

The NBA’s two best first-quarter offenses will face off tonight, yet the first-quarter total sits at an unremarkable 59.5. To give you some perspective, these teams combine for 63.1 points per first quarter. That somehow has been on the up-and-up recently, too, as the Nuggets have averaged 34.7 first quarter points per game over their last three games, and the Blazers have averaged 35.7 over that same span. I expect a boatload of points at the beginning of this one.

Top Player Prop of the Day

Bisson: James Harden Over 47.5 Points, Rebounds, Assists (-113 at FD Sportsbook)

Wowzers! You’ll need close to 50 points, rebounds, and assists to cash this prop – but if anyone can do it, it’s Harden, who has averaged 45.5 so far in February. He has gone above 50 in three of the past four games, including a 29-point, 14-assist, 13-rebound effort against these same Kings on Feb. 15. Don’t fear the blowout here and take the over with confidence.

Sirois: Julius Randle Over 11.5 Rebounds (-129 at DK Sportsbook)

Randle has been averaging 11.4 rebounds per game since Mitchell Robinson got hurt against the Wizards, and Golden State gives up the most boards per game to power forwards (12). Randle finished with 17 rebounds when the Knicks played the Warriors earlier in the year, too. This is a high total, but it’s one that Randle should easily surpass tonight.
