The Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks meet in NHL action from Rogers Arena on Monday night.
The Edmonton Oilers will look to build on a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames in their last matchup. Connor McDavid leads the Oilers in scoring with 87 points including team-highs of 29 goals and 58 assists while Leon Draisaitl has 71 points with 24 goals and 47 assists. Tyson Barrie has 42 points with 35 assists while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Darnell Nurse each have double-digit goal and assist tallies this season. As a team, Edmonton is averaging 3.2 goals on 29.6 shots with a 26.3% success rate on the PP while allowing 2.7 goals on 30.8 shots with a 79.5% success rate on the PK this season.
The Vancouver Canucks will try to rebound from a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs last time out. Brock Boeser leads the Canucks in scoring with 37 points including a team-high 17 goals and 20 assists while Quinn Hughes has 35 points with a team-high 32 assists. Bo Horvat and JT Miller each have 34 pooints with double-digit goal and assist markers this season. As a team, Vancouver is averaging 2.6 goals on 29.5 shots with a 19.7% success rate on the PP while allowing 3.2 goals on 33.3 shots with a 78.8% success rate on the PK this season.
Edmonton is 5-1 in their last 6 road games and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 9-1 in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record. Vancouver is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 games as an underdog while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 Monday games. The under is 7-1-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Vancouver.
I get why a home dog is worth a look most nights, but realistically, the Canucks look like this tedious schedule after their COVID stoppage is catching up with them and as much as this is a steep price, Edmonton’s simply the better team jostling for playoff positioning right now. As much as I like Vancouver’s young core of players, any team with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl is going to have a chance at winning and a good one at that. Give me the Oilers here.
