Coco Gauff is a sixteen year old phenom who is considered by many to be a future number one player. Despite her young age she has already achieved a career high ranking of #38 and has rocketed up the charts since she burst onto the tour two years ago. Already possessing a very dangerous game, she is a strong baseliner with elite movement. Gauff has defeated some of the top players in the world before and certainly doesn’t back down from a challenge. She has been very impressive thus far here in Dubai, with wins over Marketa Vondrousova and Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the Quarters. her confidence is always sky high and in this form she has to be considered the favorite here.
Jil Teichmann is currently ranked #54 in the world and has been having a solid start to her 2021 season. After a poor January, she has turned her season around with a very notable run to the Semi-Finals in her previous tournament in Adelaide. The Swiss player has been outstanding so far here at the Dubai Open, upsetting Ons Jabeur 6-3, 6-3 in the Round of 16. She is a very solid yet unspectacular player who is very intelligent, and has a lot of experience. She will need to draw on all of that as she enters this match as the underdog.
Coco Gauff and Jil Teichmann have faced each other twice before, with both meetings coming in 2021. The young American has won both of those, although they were very close. While both players are in outstanding form, I am going with Coco Gauff to get the win and advance to the Semi-Finals here in Dubai. She seems highly motivated and is striking the ball very well. Teichmann will pose a stern challenge, but expect Gauff to get the win.
