South Dakota State vs. Western Illinois College Football Picks, Odds, Predictions 3/6/21

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits and Western Illinois Leathernecks face off on Saturday in a week 4 FCS college football showdown at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

It looks like it could be a bit of a down year for South Dakota State Jackrabbits who currently sit with a 1-1 record overall .South Dakota State opened up the season with a win over Northern Iowa before losing int their last game against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks. In the last game against North Dakota the offense could only manage 17 points and that led to the 11 point defeat. Under center for South Dakota State is Mark Gronowski who threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in the last game. The big issue in that last game was he also threw two interceptions and he needs to do a better job of limiting turnovers in this game.

On the other side of this matchup is the Western Illinois Leathernecks who have played one game so far this season and they also struggled as they were defeated by Missouri State. That game was a bit of back and forth and after falling behind 14-0 they scored 17 points to be tied at halftime. In the 4th quarter the defense really let them down and that led to them losing 30-24.Quarterback Connor Sampson threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions, and that needs to be cleaned up. One issue in that first game for Western Illinois was their leading rusher only had 22 yards, and they need to have a more balanced attack in this game.

Western Illinois kept the last game competitive and South Dakota State hasn’t shown anything to prove that laying this many points with them is a smart move. This is way too many points to be playing, back Western Illinois against the spread.
