Wimbledon: Coco Gauff vs. Elena Vesnina 7/1/21 Tennis Prediction

Coco Gauff (20) meets Elena Vesnina in the second round of the Wimbledon on Thursday, July 1st, 2021.

Will Elena Vesnina get a very big win under her belt as she aims to make a name for herself here in Wimbledon, or will Coco Gauff continue to raise her level as she aims to reproduce, or even go further, than where she did in 2019 when she brokethrough here?

Elena Vesnina came out ready to fight in her first round match, beating Martina Trevisan in 2 sets 7-5/6-1. Vesnina is not well known at all, mainly focusing on challenger tournaments and sometimes some small WTA tournaments. Elena Vesnina will want to make a name for herself here in Wimbledon, but she has been handed a very tough draw early on. Elena will have to utilize all of her momentum and confidence from her first round win, but this might not even be enough as she meets Coco Gauff early on in her favourite tournament on tour.

Coco Gauff came through a 2 set win against Francesca Jones, beating her 7-5/6-4. Coco Gauff knows she was not as dominant as she would have liked to have been in that first round match, but she knows that she can improve from that performance coming into this second round. Coco Gauff wants to continue rising up the rankings and making waves in big tournaments as she did at the French Open earlier this month, but she needs to ensure she does not take her next opponent, Elena Vesnina, too lightly here as it could cost her if she does.

This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and I see this being a tight match right from the start. Both players won their first round match in 2 sets, but Coco Gauff’s match was quite tight. If it was a dominant performance from Gauff I would have picked her to win this match in 2 sets as well. However, I am not 100% confident in that scoreline. I am still confident in Gauff getting the win under her belt, but Elena Vesnina will definitely be able to compete in this match and try to make a name for herself against the American.
