WTA Gippsland Trophy : Cori Gauff vs Jil Teichmann 1/31/2021 Tennis Prediction

Fourteenth seeded American Cori “Coco” Gauff faces Jil Teichmann of Switzerland in a First Round clash at the 2021 Gippsland Trophy tournament in Melbourne Australia. This tournament serves as the main warm-up event for the Australian Open so it undoubtedly will be an exciting event. This will be the first meeting between the pair, who will come away with the victory?

Sixteen year old Gauff is already a star at her young age. She rose to prominence as a 14 year old, bursting onto the tour with a string of impressive performances. She is touted by many as a future world number one, and it is hard to argue with that given how far she has come in such a short space of time. She has all the tools necessary to be a world-class player – big serve, good movement, powerful and consistent groundstrokes. As she gains more and more experience she should shoot up the rankings. This will be her second tournament of the year, after reaching the Second Round in Abu Dhabi, losing to Maria Sakkari. She is one of the dark horses for the Australian Open and will be hoping to find some rich form here.

Jil Teichmann is currently ranked ten spots lower than her opponent, at #57. This will be her first match of the year so she will be hoping to quickly adjust to the conditions and courts here in Melbourne as she prepares for the first Grand Slam of the year. She had a mixed season in 2020, reaching one Final in Lexington but otherwise having disappointing results. She will be hoping to right the ship and have a more successful 2021 season. She is a very solid player, with powerful groundstrokes. If she is in good nick this can be a good match.

I am going with the young superstar Coco Gauff to get the win here. She impresses every time she takes the court, and she seems to be putting everything together. Teichmann is a very good player but I think that Gauff has all the tools to overcome her here. Coco Gauff to win.
